Finite Element Analysis

Stress | Nonlinear | Dynamic | Structural | Geotechnical

We are a small consultant able to carry out most types of finite element analysis, from simple linear stress analysis to complex nonlinear and dynamic analysis, and always welcome new challenges.

Analysis can be done quickly and efficiently using high quality programs, and will often be quicker and more economical than in house analysis.

Most of our work has been associated with structural engineering or bridge projects. However we welcome work from all industries such as automotive, aerospace, medical, product design etc, our programs are also able to carry out thermal and fluid interaction analysis.

We have recently carried out verification analysis of over 40 of the most complex roof joints on the new Wembley Stadium.

Import of 3D models from most solid modelling programs, and input/output of Nastran files is possible.

Jobs can be priced on a lump sum or time basis as required, costs associated with development of new techniques associated with new problems will not normally be charged.

These pages provide some examples of the types of work we have carried out. Please contact us if you have any requirements, even if they differ from those shown here. After all, most of the problems here were "new" when they were carried out.

Stress

Most types of stress analysis can be carried out, whether these are 2D, 3D, or involve beam, truss, shell, solid elements etc.

Nonlinear

We are particularly experienced in nonlinear analysis. Almost all types of nonlinear analysis can be carried out including the use of nonlinear materials, nonlinear geometry, cables, buckling, and contact.

Dynamic

Almost all types of dynamic analysis can be carried out, including calculation of frequencies and modes, transient analysis (implicit and explicit), and analysis using mode superposition or modal participation factors. Harmonic and random loads can be applied, and seismic analysis can also be carried out.

Structural

Traditionally many of these types of problems would probably be solved using multiple runs from conventional space/plane frame, or grillage programs. However there are occasions when certain types of problem can be solved quickly, more efficiently, and with a better opportunity for display of results using FE analysis. We also run traditional frame analysis programs so are well suited to decide the best method of solving a particular problem.

Geotechnical

A wide variety of geotechnical problems can be solved using Finite Element techniques. These include soil, seepage, soil-structure-interaction, settlement, and displacement analyses.

Please contact us to discuss any analysis requirements you have.
